Volunteer

Baystate Games

Officiating at this tournament is a great way to start the season. Doing so, we “get out the cobwebs” while connecting and forming friendships with our fellow officials from all over the state and New England. If you were unable to take part last summer, consider joining the crew this year!

If you are available to officiate, please complete the Official’s Volunteer form, by mail or e-mail by June 30, 2019. We are happy to assist with any questions related to the field hockey games and will coordinate all field hockey game assignments then send a final schedule of game assignments and BSG rules modifications in July.

Full-Field (Veteran's Memorial Complex in Waltham)

July 12 - 14

The full-field scholastic division is open to high school athletes who meet Bay State Games eligibility requirements and are selected in their region of the state to participate on a team. Full-field field hockey games are scheduled for July 12-14 on turf. Refer to the Official’s Volunteer form for game times.

7 v 7 (WPI)

July 20

Teams play round robin within their pool then advance to a championship round. Games are 25 minutes and played on a turf field approximately 35 yards by 60 yards. Scholastic teams are officiated with NFHS rules and BSG modifications, and the collegiate and open division games are officiated with NCAA rules and BSG modifications. This one-day event on Saturday - July 20 will take place at a new location this year, Worcester Polytechnic Institute Alumni Stadium in Worcester, Massachusetts. Refer to the Official’s Volunteer form for game time blocks.

2. On Field Clinic Opportunities

Area coordinators will forward information about clinics and tournaments as they are announced and will be listed here. The past few years, BFHUA has reimbursed the clinic fee to those officials who attended (we use the Scholarship $). We will do the same this year. This is a great opportunity to officiate the new rules and receive critique from top level Umpires/Evaluators.
